Amsterdam Museum’s Audio Tour for Children

For the launch of their new exhibition “Vrouwen van Amsterdam – een ode”, we produced a video campaign highlighting the exhibition’s free audio tour for kids. For this, we invited three children to the museum and captured their journey as they explored the stories of the women who shaped Amsterdam, guided by the children audio tour.

The Challenge

We were tasked with creating a video that appealed to both kids and parents while promoting the free audio tour—all on a limited budget. This required a highly resourceful approach, as we had no access to professional actors, models, high-end equipment, or a dedicated audio production budget. Despite these constraints, the goal was to deliver a high-quality video that was informative for parents, playful for kids, and engaging enough to spark curiosity in both audiences.

The Strategy

With a limited budget, we knew we had to maximise the use of available resources. Through the Amsterdam Museum’s children’s board, we were able to recruit three children who volunteered to be part of the video. With limited time for shooting, we prepared a script designed to feel as natural and organic as possible. Our plan was to capture the kids’ genuine reactions using minimal equipment—a camera we owned and a rented gimbal—to keep costs low. We briefed the children only about being filmed and let them explore the exhibition freely. To connect with young viewers, we developed a kid-friendly script, recorded with a volunteer from the Amsterdam Museum. Visually, we wanted to enhance the playful tone more with playful elements. Lastly, to ensure versatility across platforms, we structured our shot composition to accommodate various formats, including vertical and square versions.

The Result

We delivered a video campaign designed to engage both kids and parents, making the free audio tour inviting for families. By capturing the children’s spontaneous reactions and pairing them with a playful, kid-friendly narrative, the video aimed to be both genuine and relatable for the target audiences. Playful elements like animated scribbles and a soft, dream-like border enhanced the visual appeal for younger viewers while keeping it enjoyable for adults. To ensure maximum reach and adaptability, we produced multiple versions in various lengths and formats, allowing seamless integration across platforms such as the Amsterdam Museum’s website and Instagram.
